The IQ's app comes with advanced mapping and automation features but it's missing no-go zones which are included on iRobot models. The smart-pathing navigational system results in superior maneuverability and its high-pile carpet cleaning mode cleans well, although it does have a tendency to get caught up in rug tassels. Additionally, its iHome speaker lets you control the robot using voice commands.

In our tests during our tests, the IQ was adept at handling pet hair with ease, removing an impressive amount of debris from bare floors and fair amounts on medium-pile carpet. It was less effective on shag carpets, as it was unable to reach dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It was capable of maneuvering around chair legs, tight spaces, and the wooden base of an IKEA step stool. It was a little slower on flooring that was not fully covered, but it recovered speed and was more efficient than the other robots we test.

The IQ is a better choice than the iRobot Roomba 694 for most applications. It has a larger dustbin, a longer battery life and is better in navigating around obstacles. It comes with a mopping tool that can clean up sticky messes. On the other hand the iRobot feels better-built and has fewer parts that require maintenance or replacement and incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance and creates virtual no-go zones through its companion app. It can continue cleaning from where it left off, even if the battery runs out before it has finished.
